GREAT BRITISH PUBS - DAILY TELEGRAPH - FRIDAY APRIL 3rd 2009 North West - Best For Families
The Ross's Arms - Astley - Manchester "This family-run hostelry has been a pub since 1855, and is a great place to bring children. It's right next to the fascinating Astley Green Colliery Mining Museum (a 15-acre site with 28 colliery locomotives) and a pleasing stroll from the Bridgewater Canal, part of the popular Cheshire Ring (where you can walk or cycle along the tree-lined towpaths,) making it the lunchtime choice for a family day out. It's also a great place to head if you're on a boating holiday. There's a play park in the attractive beer garden where you'll find a barbecue on the go during the summer, while the conservatory makes it a good all-weather hang-out. A changing selection of cask ales is on offer, and the food is simple but tasty."
